Record Broken: Julius Jones Jr. Becomes St. Thomas Aquinas’ All-Time Leading Receiver

By now, everyone has heard about the handshake snub heard around the world, when DeSoto captains refused to shake hands in the pregame meetup at midfield with the Aquinas captains. Aquinas went on to beat DeSoto in blowout fashion by a score of 38-14, but those are not the even biggest story coming out of this game but rather the historic feat by Julius Jones Jr.

Jones Jr. added a major accomplishment to an already impressive high school career this past weekend by becoming the all-time leading receiver in St. Thomas Aquinas football history.

The Notre Dame commit surpassed Cameron Benson’s previous career receiving-yardage record of 1,885 yards, a mark that had stood since 1979. Jones now has 1,897 career receiving yards and is on the verge of becoming the first receiver in the storied Raiders program to eclipse 2,000 yards.

The record-breaking performance came during St. Thomas Aquinas’ dominant 38-14 victory over the #1 ranked DeSoto this past Saturday. Jones made his presence felt throughout the matchup, making multiple receptions, but the one that stood out the most was the record breaking slant touchdown catch (see below).

Aquinas jumped out to a commanding 38-0 halftime lead which allowed them to coast to victory in a run the clock out kind of game plan for the second half. The victory pushed St. Thomas Aquinas to 2-0 on the season while extending the program’s remarkable home winning streak.
