Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was pleased with his team’s performance following the Fighting Irish’s victory over Stanford, highlighting the team’s consistency, Jonaz Walton’s continued development, and the importance of quickly turning the page to BYU.

Freeman praised his team for maintaining its intensity throughout the game, even while acknowledging there is always room for improvement.

“I think they played for 60 minutes. It wasn’t perfect. It never is, but the consistency and execution on both sides of the ball was really good and pleasing,” Freeman said. “I appreciate the way they came out here with the right mindset in the second half. It was a great win.”

One of the biggest takeaways from the victory was the continued emergence of freshman running back Jonaz Walton, who delivered a spectacular 97-yard touchdown run. Freeman believes Walton is becoming more than just an explosive playmaker, pointing to his growing consistency as a football player.

“He’s becoming consistent. We know he’s got a huge play capability, but he’s becoming a consistent football player, and when you’re a consistent football player, you get opportunities like that to break one for 97 yards. He’s got a different motor,” Freeman said.

With the Stanford game behind them, Freeman plans to allow his team to enjoy the victory before shifting its attention to the next challenge.

“We’re gonna enjoy this win tonight. We worked too hard not to enjoy it, but then when I wake up in the morning, we’re gonna get ready for this next opponent (BYU). It’ll be a good one,” Freeman said.

Notre Dame earned the opportunity to celebrate its performance, but the focus will quickly turn toward BYU. Freeman’s message was clear: appreciate the win, continue building consistency, and prepare for the next test.
